6th Gen Camaro Suspension: UMI Upgrades For Street And Strip

If you want to sort out your 6th Gen Camaro suspension, UMI Performance just gave you the parts to do it. The company released three new products for 2016-2024 Camaros: the standalone 2255 caster/camber plates, the 2255-1S street coilover strut kit, and the 2255-1R race coilover strut kit. All three bolt on without welding or cutting. All three are made right here in the USA.

What Is The UMI 2255 Caster/Camber Plate?

The UMI 2255 replaces the factory upper strut mount on 2016-2024 Camaros. It adds both caster and camber adjustment to a platform that comes with almost none from the factory. Most aftermarket options only address camber. Getting caster into the equation changes how the front end feels at speed. It also improves stability under hard braking and through long sweepers.

UMI machined the 2255 from 2024-grade aluminum with 4140 steel at the high-load points. The bearings are spherical and pressed in with an interference fit. Hardened anodized aluminum and zinc-plated steel keep corrosion out. The adjustment indicators sit in plain view from the engine bay. You can make alignment changes with hand tools without pulling the wheels. At the track, that matters.

The 2255 plates work with OE MagneRide struts, Viking coilovers, and Koni struts. Builders can run the plates alone with their current struts or pair them with one of UMI’s complete kit options below.

2255-1S: The Street 6th Gen Camaro Suspension Kit

The 2255-1S pairs the 2255 plates with Viking J427GB-300 Berserker double-adjustable front coilover struts and 300 lb/in springs. This is the kit for a street-driven 6th Gen that sees occasional track days.

Berserker valving gives you independent compression and rebound adjustment. You can run a firm but livable street tune during the week. Push it toward a track setup on the weekend. No hardware swaps required. The 300 lb/in spring rate handles performance driving without beating you up on the commute. UMI includes the 90090 take-up spring kit to maintain spring preload at full droop and eliminate clunking when the suspension unloads.

Installation uses factory mounting locations. No cutting, no welding. A professional alignment after the install is required to use the full caster and camber range. That is true of any serious coilover system.

2255-1R: The Race 6th Gen Camaro Suspension Kit

The 2255-1R is the track-only version. It uses Viking Crusader-valved double-adjustable struts and 450 lb/in springs. The Crusader valving handles aggressive, repeated inputs on road courses and autocross courses without going soft.

The stiffer spring rate pairs with the wide alignment range of the 2255 plates to support sticky tires and hard cornering loads. UMI says this kit can run on the street. It will ride noticeably firmer than the 1S. If your Camaro lives at the autocross course, that tradeoff is the right call.

Both kit options integrate with UMI’s rear links, toe links, sway bars, and rear coilover kits. The 2255 plates and strut kits are the front foundation. The rest of the UMI 6th Gen lineup builds off them.

Why The 6th Gen Camaro Needed This Suspension Upgrade

The 6th Gen Camaro is a capable platform from the factory. GM did solid work on the chassis. But the stock front suspension leaves alignment adjustment on the table. The factory strut mounts were not designed for back-to-back autocross runs or aggressive road course driving.
