The phrase fast Camaro usually brings one image to mind: big cubic inches, eight cylinders, and a soundtrack that rattles windows. For decades, V8 power has defined Camaro performance, from street cars to full-blown drag builds. Yet Camaro history shows that records fall when builders ignore expectations, including the moment the V8 Camaro quarter-mile record was reset with a new 8.64-second naturally aspirated pass. That same willingness to challenge convention is what makes the fastest 2016 2.0L Camaro on the planet impossible to overlook.

The Fastest 2.0L Camaro On The Planet

A 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT owned by Jake A. Starr from Wellsburg, Iowa, has delivered a result that forces people to stop scrolling and look closer. Running a turbocharged 2.0L engine, Jake recently recorded a 9.92-second quarter-mile pass. That number alone puts the car in rare company, but context makes it even more impressive. The run came on just the fifth pass with the current setup.

This isn’t a lightweight record or a one-off hero run. It’s a legitimate Alpha platform Camaro doing something few thought was realistic.

A Turbo Four-Cylinder Built To Be Used

The foundation of the build is a fully built 2.0L engine paired with a custom turbo system centered around an Xona Rotor turbocharger. The goal was not to chase shock value but to create a combination that delivers strong airflow, stability, and repeatable performance. The compact packaging keeps the Alpha platform’s balance intact while still delivering the power needed to run deep into the nines.

Fueling comes from XDI injectors, an auxiliary fuel pump, and ZZPerformance’s sixth-port injection system. That combination allows the engine to support aggressive boost while maintaining control under sustained load, which is where many four-cylinder builds fall short.

A Drivetrain That Matches The Ambition

Horsepower and torque are useless without a drivetrain that can survive it. This Camaro runs the world’s first built 8L45 automatic transmission developed specifically for drag racing, created with Chuck at Fisher Built. A limited-slip rear differential and SS axles round out the package, addressing known weak points and allowing the car to leave hard without drama.

The entire 2016 2.0L Camaro build was assembled and refined by ZZPerformance, and it’s far from finished. Jake plans to put real miles on the car at Sick Summer, Camaro Fest, Street Car Takeover, and the Ice Cream Cruise. If this is what the car can do early on, the ceiling is still wide open.
