The History Behind The Magnum

To understand the Magnum, it helps to look back at the late 1990s. During that time, TREMEC had already become a familiar name among manual transmission enthusiasts thanks to the growing popularity of the TKO in the expanding five-speed muscle car conversion market.

Enter The TR-6060 And Magnum

In 2004, TREMEC began developing a replacement for the T-56 in response to increasing torque demands and requests from OEM customers for improved shift quality. The result was the TR-6060, which debuted in the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 before replacing the T-56 across nearly every original equipment performance application by 2008. At the same time, TREMEC engineers developed an aftermarket-only version of the TR-6060 specifically for engine swaps and custom builds.

The engineering team incorporated many of the swap-friendly characteristics found in the TKO while designing the input side around popular T-56 applications to maintain compatibility with existing aftermarket components. GM versions were modeled after the 1998-2002 F-body platform, while Ford versions followed the 2003-2004 Terminator Cobra configuration. The result was the T-56 Magnum, introduced in 2009.
