Chevrolet’s Teaser Suggests ZR1 Nurburgring Record Lap
Aiming For Ford’s Record And More
Chevrolet is teasing something big from the Nurburgring, and all signs point to a record-setting lap attempt by the upcoming Corvette ZR1 or possibly the hybrid ZR1X. A new video posted on the official Corvette Instagram account shows a yellow car equipped with the ZTK aero package—easily identified by its towering rear wing—charging through the iconic 12.9-mile circuit. The caption? “Fast as green hell.”

The clip shows the car blasting down a straight before diving into a tight left-hander, downshifting as it loads up into the corner. There’s no clear confirmation whether the car is the 1,064-horsepower rear-drive ZR1 or the 1,250-horsepower all-wheel-drive hybrid ZR1X. It could also be both. Earlier reports from this month showed Chevrolet testing several C8 variants, including the Z06, at the Nurburgring. No lap times have been confirmed yet, but this is the closest Chevy has come to publicly acknowledging a timed attempt.
Will The ZR1 Become the Fastest At The Nurburgring?
The target is clear: the Ford Mustang GTD, which earlier this year ran a 6:52.072, becoming the fastest American production car to lap the ‘Ring and the fifth fastest production car ever. The Corvette has its work cut out for it. Ahead of the GTD on the leaderboard are the Porsche 911 GT2 RS with the Manthey Racing kit (6:43.300), the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series (6:48.047), and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (6:49.328). The current crown belongs to the Mercedes-AMG One, with a blistering 6:29 lap.
There’s another layer to the mystery. Chevrolet posted the teaser on June 28th. Given the obsession with numbers in performance circles, it’s hard not to wonder if that’s a subtle nod to the ZR1 Nurburgring lap time they’re aiming for (6/28). Is this a coincidence or a clue? We’ll find out very soon.
