Corvette Adds Another ZR1 Lap Record To Its Growing Trophy Case
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 has spent much of the year rewriting the production-car record books, and its latest achievement further reinforces its reputation as a track-dominating machine. Chevrolet previously sent a pre-production ZR1 fitted with the ZTK Performance Package to some of the toughest circuits in the United States, where it claimed five production-car lap records at Watkins Glen, Road America, Road Atlanta, and both the Full Course and Grand Course configurations at Virginia International Raceway. Each run was completed by a different driver, showcasing not only outright speed, but also the consistency to set multiple ZR1 lap records.

Those American lap times highlighted the breadth of the ZR1’s capabilities. Between its aggressive carbon-fiber aero, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, revised suspension tuning, and a powertrain producing more than 1,000 horsepower, the ZR1 demonstrated that it could excel on fast, flowing tracks as well as more technical layouts. But Chevrolet’s performance push didn’t stop at the U.S. border.

Ron Fellows Resets the Bar at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park
At Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, commonly known as Mosport, the ZR1 quietly added another major benchmark. With legendary Corvette racer Ron Fellows at the helm, the ZR1 recorded a 1:18.2 lap time, establishing a new production-car record at the iconic Canadian circuit. Fellows previously held the record in 2023 in a C8 Z06 at 1:22.12, making the new time particularly meaningful. The ZR1’s lap trimmed nearly four seconds off his earlier benchmark, an enormous margin at a track known for rewarding precision and confidence.

Fellows credited the ZR1’s balance of downforce, braking performance, and power delivery for the improvement. Equipped with the ZTK aero package, the ZR1 generates more than 1,200 pounds of downforce at speed, allowing drivers to brake later and carry more momentum through Mosport’s fast, flowing corners. “It’s just getting comfortable with the pure acceleration, and also getting comfortable with how the car stops,” said Fellows. “With the added downforce, it’s all about getting people to trust the car’s cornering capability.”

America’s Track-Focused Rivalry Heats Up
The Canadian lap record adds to a growing list of real-world achievements for the ZR1 and underscores how its engineering translates into measurable performance. Inevitably, comparisons have followed. Chevrolet has confirmed that both the ZR1 and the all-wheel-drive ZR1X have posted faster Nürburgring lap times than the Ford Mustang GTD, currently giving the Corvette the edge in the ongoing American supercar rivalry. While the battle between the two is far from over, the ZR1 is clearly setting the pace for now.
