2027 Silverado Debuts With New 5.7-Liter and 6.6-Liter V8s
Chevrolet has officially unveiled the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500 half-ton trucks, and the specs are looking good. The styling is sharp, the interior looks high-tech with all the screens, but what has our attention in the office is the new powertrains.
At the center of the launch is a new generation of V8 power with two new versions of the upcoming Gen VI small-block Chevy. A clear signal that Chevrolet remains committed to traditional truck performance while continuing to advance technology, capability, and refinement across the lineup.
Next-Generation V8 Power Leads The Charge
The 2027 Silverado will continue offering four engine choices: An upgraded 2.7-liter TurboMax, the segment-exclusive Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel, and two new V8s displacing 5.7 liters and 6.6 liters that are based on the next-gen Gen VI small-block that was recently unveiled in the C8 Corvette as a 535-horsepower 6.7-liter version. All four engine choices now pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission as standard.
Chevrolet says the 2027 Silverado offers the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class with the 6.6. The new engines were engineered to improve both power and torque while maintaining the durability and dependability Silverado owners expect. Production of the engines will take place at GM’s Flint Engine Operations, Tonawanda Propulsion, and St. Catharines Propulsion facilities.

“Silverado has earned truck customers’ trust over decades of hard work in the real world,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Global Chevrolet. “With the Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500, we’re taking that legacy forward by building the most capable, refined and advanced Silverado lineup we’ve ever offered.”
Mark Dickens, executive chief engineer, emphasized the extensive testing behind the new engines.
“We pushed these engines through an extensive testing and validation process to make sure they deliver the durability, capability and dependability Silverado customers expect,” said Dickens. “From tough towing scenarios to the daily demands our customers put on their trucks, these next-generation V8s were engineered and proven to perform in the real world.”
No Engine Specs Just Yet
We think the engine specs for the new 5.7 and 6.6 V8s may have gotten lost somewhere in the Chevrolet Press room, because they’ve left us all wanting more info on the new Gen VI small blocks. But that certainly hasn’t stopped us from speculating what’s coming.
The 6.7-liter Gen VI V8 in the 2027 Corvettes makes 535 horsepower and features a 103.25 mm x 100 mm bore and stroke. That’s 4.065in bore pistons and a 3.937in stroke crankshaft for 409 cubic inches for us old motor-heads. Chevrolet has confirmed in this press release that the two new V8s in the 2027 Silverado will be based on the new Gen VI small block architecture.
This leads us to believe that the 6.6 will have a 4.065in bore and 3.858 stroke like the 6.6 L8T in the current HD trucks, and the 5.7 will follow GM’s same manufacturing formula of having the same cranks and rods with a smaller bore. A 3.870in bore, which is the same as the current 5.3s, combined with the 3.858in stroke, comes to 346 cubic inches. This is the same 5.7-liter displacement as the old LS1 from 1997.
The 5.7 and 6.6 will undoubtedly feature an all-aluminum construction, direct injection, VVT, and AFM like the 6.7 in the Corvette, but will most likely have different compression ratios, heads, intake manifold, and camshaft to favor more low-octane-friendly torque. We’re expecting the 5.7 to make around 425 horsepoer and the 6.6 to make 475 horsepower. One thing that is still uncertain is if these new V8s will make it into a single cab version of the 2027 Silverado, and maybe the upcoming 7th-gen Camaro.

A New Look With Stronger Truck Presence
Chevrolet gave the Silverado a completely redesigned exterior for 2027, featuring a bolder overall stance and more premium execution while maintaining the truck’s work-focused identity.
New LED headlights and taillights headline the visual updates, joined by more pronounced wheel opening moldings, revised rocker treatments, and standard dual exhaust outlets on Custom trim and above.
The front fascia has been completely redesigned, while trim-specific lighting signatures and styling details create stronger separation throughout the lineup.
“The goal with the new Silverado was to create a truck that looks stronger, more modern with demanding presence at first glance, while staying true to the authentic truck character customers expect from Chevrolet,” said Chevrolet Global Executive Design Director Phil Zak.

Every Silverado Gets A Digital Cockpit
Inside, Chevrolet has standardized a modern digital interior across the entire lineup. Every 2027 Silverado receives a class-leading 16.3-inch center touchscreen paired with a 12.2-inch driver information display. Higher-end ZR2 and High Country models add a class-leading 11.5-inch passenger display, a head-up display, and a rear camera mirror, bringing total screen space to more than 60 inches.
The cabin also gains available dual wireless charging and a reconfigurable Multi-Flex center console designed to increase storage and everyday usability. Chevrolet continues to expand its technology leadership with available Super Cruise driver assistance technology and segment-exclusive trailering capability, allowing hands-free driving even while towing.
The Most Off-Road Capable ZR2 Yet
Chevrolet is doubling down on off-road performance with three lifted trims: Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, and an updated ZR2. The new ZR2 arrives with 35-inch mud-terrain tires, a 2-inch lift, a dedicated off-road hood featuring an enhanced power dome, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and Multimatic DSSV dampers paired with jounce dampers.
Inside, the ZR2 receives Torch Red accents, Torch Red-edged seatbelts, dual wireless charging, and GM’s first application of forged carbon trim. Real forged carbon appears throughout the doors and center console. Buyers wanting even more capability can opt for the ZR2 Bison Edition, developed alongside American Expedition Vehicles. The package adds unique AEV front and rear bumpers, rocker protection, 18-inch beadlock-capable wheels, skid plates protecting key drivetrain components, an AEV rear badge, and all-weather floor liners.

Trail Boss Expands The Off-Road Family
The Trail Boss continues to serve as Chevrolet’s attainable off-road model. A factory 2-inch lift, 34-inch mud-terrain tires, and a dedicated off-road hood give the truck a more aggressive appearance and trail-ready stance. Two exclusive interior themes feature Torch Red-edged seatbelts, fabric seat inserts, and custom perforation patterns designed to distinguish Trail Boss from the rest of the lineup.
