AC Cobra GT Coupe Blends Classic Styling With 720 Modern Horses
The Cobra name carries a weight few performance car badges can match. While Ford may have moved away from using the Cobra designation on its most extreme Mustang models, the name itself remains very much alive. Now, AC Cars has unveiled its latest interpretation with the new AC Cobra GT Coupe, a machine that blends classic styling cues with thoroughly modern engineering.
At first glance, the GT Coupe looks like something pulled directly from the golden era of sports car design. Underneath, however, it is a far more sophisticated machine than anything that rolled out of AC’s workshops in the 1950s or 1960s.
Built around an aluminum chassis and clothed in carbon-fiber bodywork, the Cobra GT Coupe combines old-school visual appeal with modern performance, offering up to 720 horsepower depending on configuration.

A New Coupe Built On Familiar Foundations
The Cobra GT Coupe traces its roots to the AC Cobra GT Roadster that debuted in 2023. Like the Roadster, the Coupe embraces the styling language that eventually inspired Carroll Shelby to transform the AC Ace into the legendary Shelby Cobra.
Adding a fixed roof creates a new chapter in AC’s long history of coupe variants based on the original Ace platform. The Cobra GT Coupe joins a lineage that includes the iconic Shelby Daytona Coupe and the AC Aceca, which first appeared in 1954.
While the new model may not carry the racing pedigree of the Daytona Coupe, its design remains closely tied to the visual character that made the Cobra famous in the first place.
The modern platform is significantly larger than the original AC sports cars. The wheelbase grows by approximately one foot, overall length increases by 14 inches, and width expands by roughly 18 inches. Those dimensional changes allow the GT Coupe to comfortably accommodate modern occupants, though they also contribute to a curb weight of around 3,500 pounds, roughly double that of the original cars.

Ford V8 Power With A “Man Pedal”
Power comes from Ford’s 5.0-liter V8, offered in two configurations. Standard models produce 450 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, while buyers selecting the supercharged version gain access to 720 horsepower and 605 pound-feet of torque.
Transmission options reflect the car’s blend of old and new. Buyers can choose a six-speed manual transmission for a more traditional driving experience, while a 10-speed automatic with paddle shifters is available for those seeking modern convenience.
Performance remains impressive despite the larger dimensions. AC states the Cobra GT Coupe is capable of reaching 60 mph in under four seconds.
That said, the GT Coupe appears designed around a broader mission than outright speed alone. Rather than replicating the raw, uncompromising nature of the original Cobra, AC has focused on creating a car that can comfortably cover longer distances while still delivering substantial performance.

Modern Luxury Wrapped In A Vintage Shape
The interior highlights just how far the Cobra concept has evolved. Hand-finished leather upholstery, vintage-inspired design elements, and machined toggle switches create a cabin that balances classic aesthetics with contemporary expectations. Features unheard of in a 1960s Cobra are now part of the package, including power windows and a navigation system.
Those additions may seem simple, but they speak directly to the philosophy behind the GT Coupe. This is not intended to be a stripped-down recreation. Instead, it aims to offer the visual drama of a Cobra while providing the usability expected from a modern grand touring car.
Despite its larger footprint, the design remains unmistakably Cobra. The wider body gives the car a stronger presence on today’s roads and helps it avoid looking undersized alongside modern trucks and SUVs.

Production Plans And Competition
AC plans to offer the Cobra GT Coupe in both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive configurations. The company also intends to dramatically increase production capacity, targeting an expansion from approximately 100 vehicles annually to 1,000 units per year. First deliveries of the GT Coupe are expected in 2028.
With a starting price of $314,000, the Cobra GT Coupe occupies the upper end of a specialized market segment. AC is clearly banking on the value of its heritage and the authenticity of the AC name to attract buyers. For buyers seeking a modern interpretation backed by the original manufacturer, the AC Cobra GT Coupe stands in a category of its own.
